Shobit Pandey's video went viral on social media | TwitterDuring the opening day of the ongoing Kanpur Test between India and New Zealand, a man talking on the phone and supposedly chewing 'tobacco' became the talk of the town as soon as his video went viral.

Shobit, popularly known as 'Gutkha Man', marked his attendance at the Green Park Stadium on Day 2 of the first Test as well. On Friday (November 26), he was seen holding a placard which read- "Eating tobacco is a bad habit", in Hindi.

While some people enjoy the attention on social media, Shobit finds it irritating. Speaking to ANI, he clarified that he was not chewing tobacco and the lady accompanying him in the viral video was his sister.

"First of all, I would like to clarify that I wasn't eating tobacco. I was eating betel nut and was on call in with my friend, who was also watching the match in the same stadium but in a different stand," Shobit said.

"It was just a call of almost ten seconds and it went viral. My friend whom I was talking to was the one who broke the news to me that the video has gone viral. It went like a fire," he added.

He further said the only thing which is bothering him is that his sister is receiving nasty comments on social media.

"I didn't do anything wrong, that is why I am not scared or embarrassed about this. I am just concerned that some people are passing nasty comments about my sister. And on the other hand, I am getting numerous calls from media houses and other people regarding the whole scenario and now I am getting irritated," said Shobit.

Coming to the match, New Zealand scored 129/0 till stumps on Day 2, still trailing the hosts by 216 runs. Kiwi openers did a fine job with the bat, with Will Young (75*) and Tom Latham (50*) scoring unbeaten half-centuries.
