Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar on Wednesday (November 17) said that India’s new head coach Rahul Dravid and T20I captain Rohit Sharma have a quite similar temperament and that will help the duo understand each other and work well together easily.

Dravid, one of the greatest cricketers to have played for India, has taken over from Ravi Shastri as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team and his stint starts with the upcoming bilateral series against New Zealand, starting with the first T20I on Wednesday in Jaipur.

Gavaskar said on the Star Sports show Follow The Blues: “If you look at both of their temperaments, they are quite similar. Rohit is of a quiet nature just like Rahul Dravid. So I think their bond will be quite good because both of them will understand each other well.”

The former Indian captain also believes that Dravid will handle his new responsibility in the same "safe and strong" manner as he went about his batting while playing for India during his career.

Gavaskar added, “When he used to play we used to think that till Rahul Dravid is at the crease, the Indian batting is safe and strong. This is the reason why I believe that the new responsibility of head coach that falls upon him, he will be able to handle it in a similar way.”

Meanwhile, the former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is confident that Dravid will become a very successful coach and feels he brings a lot of “assurance” in the dressing room.

Gambhir said, “He was a very successful player then he became a very successful captain and I'm sure he is going to become a very successful coach as well. With him in that dressing room, I think he brings a lot of assurance, he's played more than 100 Test matches.”

He signed off by saying, “He's captained the side, his work ethics were unbelievable, really hard working. So, I think he brings a lot on the table.”
