India and Australia are facing off in the third and final ODI being played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium in Rajkot on September 27, 2023. India has already won the first two ODIs and leads the series 2-0.
Australia won the toss and captain Pat Cummins chose to bat first.
Both sides made some changes as Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, and Tanveer Sangha were included in the Australian XI. For India, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav returned in the XI as well. Washington Sundar was given a chance in place of R Ashwin.
Australia got off to a good start with David Warner (56) and Mitchell Marsh (96) adding 78 runs for the first wicket. Marsh continued after Warner fell to Prasidh Krishna, and added 137 runs with Steve Smith for the second wicket.
Marsh was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav four short of his century and then Smith fell for 74 runs as Mohammed Siraj got him LBW. Marnus Labuschagne tried to build partnerships with the middle order but Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Alex Carey for 11 runs.
In walked Glenn Maxwell, making his return to international cricket, having last played for Australia in March 2023. He looked a bit fidgety and could only manage 5 runs in 7 balls before Jasprit Bumrah had his number.
On the last ball of the 39th over, Bumrah went wide of the crease and fired in a yorker at the off-stump. Maxwell tried to hit the ball to the offside, but his bat was too late to come down and the ball had damaged the off-stump by then.
