India completed a 2-1 T20I series win over Australia by beating the Aaron Finch-led side by 6 wickets in the third and final match which was played in Hyderabad on September 25, Sunday. This was India’s 10th consecutive T20I series win at home and they also went past Pakistan’s record for most T20I wins in a year with this 21st victory.
Despite half-centuries from Cameron Green and Tim David which helped Australia put on 186/7 in 20 overs after being put into bat; Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli hit scores in 60s as India chased down the total with one ball and six wickets to spare.
Australia challenged the Indian team on several occasions in each of the three matches, however, different players put their hands up on different occasions to take their team out of trouble.
Indian team has been doing a tradition of handing over the series-winning trophy to the youngest member of the squad or someone who made his debut like Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, and Deepak Hooda in recent times.
But when India defeated Australia to win the recent T20I series, Rohit Sharma won the hearts of everyone as he gave the winning trophy to the senior-most player of the squad, Dinesh Karthik, who made his debut in 2004.
Rohit Sharma received the trophy and proceeded to hand it to Karthik, who was smiling hugely. He was teased by Hardik Pandya as well as the 37-year-old posed with the silverware along with all his teammates.
Here is the video of Karthik hoisting the series-winning trophy:
Former India cricketer and Karthik's Tamil Nadu teammate Abhinav Mukund reacted to the same by saying, "Youngest member of the team with the trophy, carrying forward with the tradition" as the video went viral.
This was India's fifth T20I series win in 2022 under Rohit and the fans will hope long may it continue as the Men in Blue are set to face South Africa next from September 28 onwards. This will be India’s last international engagement before the T20 World Cup 2022 which will be played in Australia from October 16.
