England pacer Reece Topley said he was left speechless by some of the shots played by Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav during the third and final T20I against India at Trent Bridge on Sunday (July 10).

Topley said that it was an unbelievable assault from the right-hander, as he smashed his maiden century to take Team India close to the 216-run target, but they eventually fell short of 17 runs to lose the final T20I to England.

However, India won the T20I series 2-1 after winning the first two matches against England.

Notably, Suryakumar smashed 14 fours and 6 sixes to notch up 117 runs off 55 balls, as well as added 119 runs with Shreyas Iyer (28) for the fourth wicket, but his efforts went in vain.

On the other hand, Topley snared 3 wickets while conceding 22 runs in his 4 overs to win the player of the match award.

Reece Topley said during the post-match presentation: “Some great knocks today, but I am happy to get this award. (About his game plan) Isolate every ball. Different batters, some are set and some are not. You just want to come out and restrict runs or take wickets.”

He added, “We wanted to take early wickets. There was an unbelievable knock from their side. I was speechless by some of the shots, unbelievable. I’m absolutely fit and ready for the summer, long way to go.”

Topley further added at his press conference“I am not a massive cricket watcher and I haven't really seen him play before. But he played some amazing shots that I haven't seen before,”

“That was an amazing knock and one that deserved to be on the winning side for sure. I think, with us having taken those early wickets, the pressure was on him. He kept hitting the ball all over the place but we knew that we were quite close. If we took his wicket or kept taking wickets at the other end, we weren't that far away,” said Topley.
