ENG v IND 2022: BCCI names two India different squads for England T20Is; ODI squad also announced

Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in limited-overs series against England | BCCIThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Thursday, June 30, 2022, announced the Indian team squads for the upcoming three-match T20I and ODI series against England to be played after the fifth Test.

India is slated to play three T20Is from July 7 and three ODIs from July 12th onwards against England.

Rohit Sharma, who missed out on the fifth Test match after contracting Covid-19, was named captain of the Men in Blue as BCCI named two different squads for the T20I series.

For the first T20I match, which will be played on July 7 in Southampton, Rohit Sharma will lead the same squad which earlier defeated Ireland 2-0 in the T20I series, where Hardik Pandya was the captain.

ENG v IND 2022: Indian cricket fraternity elated at Jasprit Bumrah becoming India Test captain for 5th Test

The players like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shreyas Iyer, who are in the Test squad for the fifth encounter, were rested for the first T20I as the Test match concludes on July 5.

However, these players were added to the squad of the first T20I match for the remainder of the two T20I matches. The second and third T20I will be played back-to-back on July 9th in Birmingham and July 10th in Nottingham.

The squad for the second and third T20I also sees the return of Ravindra Jadeja into the Men in the Blue squad. One more major exclusion from T20Is was that of Mohammad Shami. 

India will also play three ODI matches against England- on July 12th, 14th, and 17th in Oval, Lord’s, and Manchester respectively.

The ODI squad sees the likes of Prasidh Krishna, Mohammad Shami, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Siraj joining the squad, while Arshdeep Singh gets his maiden ODI call-up.

Shikhar Dhawan was included in the ODI squad, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar was not picked in the 50-over format.
