ENG v IND 2022: BCCI asks Indian players to stay indoors, curb public appearances - Report

The development comes after skipper Rohit Sharma tested COVID-19 positive.

Rishabh Pant was seen clicking pictures with fans during the warm-up match | GettyThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has advised Indian players in England to curb their public appearances and hangouts and stay indoors.

The development comes after skipper Rohit Sharma tested COVID-19 positive following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday (June 25).

Rohit, who featured in India's four-day warm-up match against Leicestershire, is currently serving the quarantine.

While England has lifted bio-bubble and other isolation rules, COVID-19 is still not over and players from different teams have caught the virus.

"The board has scolded some players over their habit of hanging out in public. It also seems some players went in public and clicked pictures with fans, which could be dangerous. We had told them to stay careful but they still often roamed around in the city which is not required, so we asked them again to take precautions," a source from BCCI told ANI.

Before the warm-up fixture between India and Leicestershire, Indian stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were spotted in public places clicking pictures with fans, which went viral on social media.

Recently, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s picture with fans in the crowd also surfaced on the internet, which reportedly infuriated the Indian board.

India's four-day warm-up match against Leicestershire ended in a draw. The rescheduled fifth Test between India and England is due to get underway on July 1 at Edgbaston.
