Former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar on Saturday (25th June) backed Virat Kohli to come good in the rescheduled Test match against England.

Kohli of late has looked off colour. He certainly has not had the greatest of time with the bat in recent times. After a lean patch of runs at the international stage, his struggle was quite evident in the recently concluded IPL 2022.

He did score a couple of the fifties but it’s fair to say that the right-hander looked completely out of touch. Kohli scored 341 runs at an average of 22.73 in 16 matches and also bagged three ducks in the tournament as well.

It’s been almost 3 years since the 33-year-old has scored a ton. Many fans and pundits have raised concerns over Kohli’s form, especially with T20 World Cup 2022 around the corner. Now, after a short break, Kohli is back in the Indian Test side for the game against England.

He’s currently playing a four-day warmup game against Leicestershire. Kohli looked in great touch and had a decent outing in both the innings as he smashed 33 runs in the first innings and followed it up with a 67 in the second innings.

Speaking to reporters at an event in Mumbai, Dilip Vengsarkar, called Virat Kohli a world-class batter and backed him to come good in the Test against England. He said that despite him and Rohit being short of runs, he expects big runs from the duo.

"I am sure because he (Kohli) is a world-class player. He's done well and is so fit. He is just not scoring in the T20s but I think he'll come back strong, especially in the Test in England. He and Rohit Sharma, I expect big runs in England,” Dilip Vengsarkar said.

Vengsarkar also talked about Hardik Pandya, who will lead the side in the T20I series against Ireland. He said that the all-rounder worked hard on his fitness and lauded him for guiding Gujarat Titans to the title victory.

"The way he (Hardik) came back from injury is great. He must have worked very hard on his fitness. He did very well in the IPL and as a captain he did well. (He is a) very fine all-rounder.

"He led from the front. He guided the team in his first major tournament as captain (of Gujarat Titans). An all-rounder plays an important role in any team," he said.

The Indian team led by Hardik Pandya will be playing two-match T20I series against Ireland, starting 26th June while the senior team will play a Test match against England on 1st July.
