ENG v IND 2022: Rohit Sharma tests positive for COVID-19

Rohit in doubt for the Edgbaston Test.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 as per the result of a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday (June 25). He has been put under isolation and a RT-PCR test is scheduled for Sunday to confirm and ascertain the severity of the infection.

In a tweet, BCCI wrote, “UPDATE - #TeamIndia Captain Mr Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team.”

Rohit had been part of India's ongoing warm-up game against Leicestershire, scoring 25 in the first innings but did not bat in the second innings.

He will now face a race against time to be available for selection for the final Test at Edgbaston. India is already without regular opener KL Rahul and if Rohit is not available, their hopes to win the series could be severely jeopardized.

India is yet to name a vice-captain for the tour and it will be interesting to see who leads the side if Rohit can't play in the final Test starting on July 1.
