ENG v IND 2022: R Ashwin to join Indian squad in a couple of days after recovering from COVID - Report

Ashwin hadn't travelled with the team last week after testing positive for COVID-19.

Ravichandran Ashwin | GettySenior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin couldn’t travel to UK along with his India teammates last week for the rescheduled fifth Test against England after testing positive for COVID-19.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Ashwin, who is currently in quarantine, will only join the squad in the next couple of days.

The report claims that the off-spinner will assemble with the squad in Leicester before the four-day warm-up game against the county, slated to start on June 24.

The Indian team had left for UK on June 16 but Ashwin stayed back to serve the mandatory isolation period.

Now, the BCCI and Indian team management have confirmed to Cricbuzz that the travel arrangements are being made for the veteran campaigner and he should be with the rest of his teammates soon.

While Jayant Yadav was kept as a standby, the option was later ruled out as Ashwin fully recovered in time.

Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer on Tuesday (June 21) joined the rest of the Indian squad in Leicester. The trio was part of the just-concluded T20I series against South Africa and flew to UK after the fifth T20I in Bangalore on Sunday (June 19).

Taking to Twitter, BCCI shared a post in which Dravid can be seen addressing the team ahead of the warm-up fixture against Leicestershire.

The rescheduled fifth Test is slated to be held at Edgbaston from July 1.
