Earlier this month, the fifth and final Test between India and England at Old Trafford was called off at the eleventh hour following a fresh COVID-19 case in the visiting camp.

Subsequently, BCCI had offered the ECB to reschedule the cancelled Test match in their home summer of 2022.

Notably, Team India are scheduled to tour England in 2022 for a white-ball series, comprising three T20Is and ODIs each.

While ECB is yet to take an official call, a report published in ESPNCricinfo claims that England and India have confirmed plans to play a Test next year.

However, it is still not clear whether the Test will be a standalone game or part of the five-Test series, which ended prematurely.

ECB’s finances have taken a hit with the cancellation of the Manchester Test and the match is expected to avert the majority of losses.

Earlier, it was also reported that BCCI had made an offer to the ECB to added two extra T20Is in the already scheduled limited-overs series for next summer.

According to ESPNCricinfo, however, space in the schedule has been agreed for the Test and it is thought likely it will complete the series.

It is worth noting that the visitors were leading the series 2-1 after four Tests. While India won the second and fourth Test and Lord’s and the Oval respectively, England registered victory in the third Test at Headingley.
