ENG v IND 2021: Aakash Chopra wants Rohit Sharma in elite group; says change 'Fab 4' to 'Fab 5'

Rohit is India's leading run scorer with 368 runs in the ongoing Test series against England.

Rohit Sharma | GettyRohit Sharma is having a great time in England. The opener became the highest-ranked Indian Test batsman as he climbed to the 5th position in the ICC Test batsmen rankings. He also registered his first overseas century (127) in the second innings of the fourth Test at The Oval.

Rohit has displayed tremendous patience and character and is India’s leading runs scorer with 368 runs in the series. It does not come as a surprise that cricket pundits and experts around the world have heaped praise on the batsman.

Former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra said that the ‘Fab 4’ should now be ‘Fab 5,’ adding Rohit to the list that consists of India’s Virat Kohli, Australia’s Steve Smith, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, and England’s Joe Root.

"I feel you should change the Fab 4 to Fab 5, Rohit Sharma's name is going to be included if it is not already there because there is no competition for him in white-ball cricket and the way he is playing in red-ball cricket, he has tasted blood," Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

While there is no doubt Rohit Sharma is already one of the greats in white-ball cricket, he is now proving himself as a Test cricketer as well.

"He enjoys leaving or defending the ball and playing shots is in his DNA. So, bowlers beware, it is not going to be ‘Fab 4’ anymore, it will be ‘Fab 5’ and Rohit Sharma will be a part of it,” Chopra added.

Rohit was criticized for his lack of patience and temperament that is needed to succeed in the longest format of the game. He has, however, showed that he can play Test cricket by making small changes in his defensive technique.

"I feel there will be just one trajectory of his career from now onwards, he will not look back. The one question that was there about Rohit Sharma, the Test cricketer, this series, and the last six to eight months, Rohit has shown how much he loves this format and he will go to any length to actually become an established Test cricketer.

Rohit Sharma has got a new-found love for this type of batting and this relationship is beautiful. I am very impressed that he changed his approach to playing because he was extremely hungry," Chopra explained.
