ENG v IND 2021: Ashish Nehra disagrees with Sourav Ganguly saying India are far ahead of the rest

India has a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series with only one more Test to go.

Team India has 2-1 lead with one Test to go in England | GettyFormer India pacer Ashish Nehra said that he doesn’t 100% agree with BCCI President Sourav Ganguly’s claim that the Indian Team is far ahead of the rest of the teams in international cricket.

Ganguly’s claim came after India defeated England by 157 runs in the Oval Test to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. This led to Ganguly tweeting, “Great show ..The skill is the difference but the biggest difference is the absorbing power of pressure..indian cricket is far ahead then the rest.”

During a discussion on Sony Sports, Ashish Nehra did not totally agree with his former skipper's opinion.

He said: "You spoke about Sourav Ganguly's tweet that they have absorbed pressure very well but the Indian team way ahead of the rest. There, I am not in 100% agreement.

If you go just by the numbers, the New Zealand team has defeated you when you talk about the WTC. Just like it is his thinking, I believe that they are ahead but along with them, when you talk about Test cricket for the last one to one-and-a-half years, the Indian and New Zealand team are neck to neck."

India had come back after being beaten by an innings and 76 runs in the third Test at Headingley. However, despite being bowled out for 191 runs in 1st innings of the Oval Test, India went onto keep England to 290 in the first do, limiting their lead to 99 runs.

Rohit Sharma’s century helped India put on 466 runs in the second innings, setting England a target of 368 runs to win. However, the Indian pacer unit of Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shardul Thakur, along with Ravindra Jadeja routed England on day five for 210 runs.
