England head coach Chris Silverwood credited the Indian cricket team by saying they know how to fight back from difficult situations after his team’s massive 157-run defeat in the fourth Test at The Oval.

England had a great start of the match having restricted Team India to 191 in the first innings and then managed to post 290 runs on the board, but they failed to put pressure on the tourists in the second innings, as they went on to post mammoth 466 runs to set a tricky target of 368 runs for the hosts.

Defending the total, Indian bowlers bowled their hearts out to take 10 wickets on the final day to record a thrilling 157-run win on Monday to take a 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-match Test series against England.

Silverwood told Sky Sports: “If we're being truthful, I would like to have gone further past them at that point, that's going to be the opportunity to really put pressure on the Indians. We failed to do that so it's something we'll reflect on in the dressing room and talk about amongst ourselves.”

He concluded, “It would have been great to go maybe 190 past them and really pile the pressure on, but again credit to the Indians, they know how to fight back.”

England and India will now face each other in the fifth and final Test at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester from September 10 with the hosts aiming to level the Test series.
