ENG v IND 2021: "I'll start the #BringAshwinBack trend," Vaughan wants India to present new challenges to England

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has started the '#BringAshwinBack' campaign on Twitter after India lost the third Test against England at Leeds.

On Saturday (August 28), Vaughan posted a tweet with the hashtag after his comments on Cricbuzz regarding Ashwin's inclusion in the fourth Test.

Apart from Ashwin's addition in the playing XI, Vaughan suggested India to get rid of Ajinkya Rahane, who hasn't been in good touch with the bat. His suggestion came after the Indian batting order suffered a collapse in both innings of the Headingley Test.

"I think England would like to see Rahane again, [similar to how] I think India wanted to see Sibley again. When you get to the days where the opposition teams are quite happy to see players get another game, you have to make the change. India need to arrive on Thursday with a different mindset. I'm sure they'll find that, they're a good team and they'll get back on track with their mindset. But they need different personnel as well," Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.

India were bowled out for 78 runs in the first innings and 278 runs in the second innings. On Day 4, the team lost 8 wickets in the morning season, having scored 215/2 at the end of Day 3. Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara had started the day for India.

Pujara couldn't add any runs to his score of 91 and got out leg before wicket by Ollie Robinson. Kohli also soon departed after completing his half-century in a similar way of dismissal. Robinson managed to get the outside edge of the Indian captain. Soon after India lost Kohli, it was a matter of time before the whole batting order collapse and they lost the match by an innings and 76 runs.

Vaughan feels India should present a new challenge to the hosts by playing Ashwin in the next Test match. "They need to offer England someone else to think about in terms of the batting department and also the bowling department. Joe Root has now strolled himself to over 500 runs and he's facing the same bowlers, doing the same things. #BringAshwinBack will trend over the next few days, and I'll start it. I am not an Indian fan but if you want me to start it, I'll start the #BringAshwinBack trend," he said.

Here's his tweet which came after his comments:

The Englishman also joked that India's batting feels like 'DVD playing' on repeat because of the identical way of dismissal. "Yeah, that's a problem for India. The dismissals for all players are now common. It's like a DVD you keep playing, it's just the same. For all the different players, England have got the plans. Over a five-match series, you as a player have to workout counterpunches.

"You know what the tactics are going to be, Ollie Robinson said he's going to bowl fuller 4th-5th stump line to Virat Kohli, that's where they are going to bowl to him. So, it's down to Virat to work that out," Vaughan added.
