India and England arrived at Headingley in Leeds for the Third Test with the hosts all fired up after a thrilling win at Lord's in the final session on the last day. Virat Kohli won a rare toss and opted to bat first, as India went in with an unchanged side.

What followed was a batting capitulation that left the Indian team and everyone watching at home in shock as the visitors crashed to 78 all out - their 9th lowest total in Test cricket. Rohit Sharma top scored with 19 and only Ajinkya Rahane with 18 and Extras (16) could enter double figures.

James Anderson and Craig Overton took three wickets each, while Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran shared two scalps each as England cleaned up the Indian batting in almost 40 overs.

India would have hoped for something similar when their chance came to bowl, but just like the batting, they too were not upto the mark as the pitch flattened with the sun out at Headingley.

England's openers Rory Burns (52*) and Haseeb Hameed (60*) scored half-centuries as the hosts ended the opening day at 120/0 with a lead of 42 runs and all 10 wickets in hand. Something very miraculous would need to happen from here for India to make a comeback in this Test.

The England fans were visibly jubilant to see the home team dominate the visitors, more so after an intense Test at Lord's with plenty of verbal clashes between the sides.

Mohammed Siraj, who was fielding on the boundary, was subjected to some leg pulling and chants from the fans, which did not impress the fast bowler as he made a gesture towards the section of fans who were giving him a hard time. Siraj could be seen making a '1-0' signal which is the current scoreline of the five-match series.
