Indian cricket fans had hoped for a great batting performance from the team after Virat Kohli had won the toss in the third Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. However, what unfolded next proved to be a nightmare from which there was no waking up.
James Anderson (3/6) rocked the India batting lineup by removing KL Rahul for a duck in the first over itself and then hit hard with wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara and captain Virat Kohli. In all, only Rahane (18) and Rohit Sharma (19) reached double figures, apart from extra which clocked at 16 runs.
Such performance brought back memories of Adelaide 2020 when India was bowled out for 36 runs against Australia, which is their lowest Test score ever. The Indian fans just couldn’t digest the fact that the team management was still persisting with Pujara and Rahane despite their poor run of form and didn’t even spare captain Kohli, who has not scored a century in international cricket for 50 innings now.
