Virat Kohli once again had to settle for a low score as Team India got off to a poor start in their 2nd innings against team England at Lord’s Cricket Stadium on Sunday, August 15th.

At the start of Day 4, the Indian team was 27 runs behind England. India lost two early wickets as both the Indian openers were dismissed by the English bowlers. Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli were the two new batsmen on the crease.

But soon the Indian captain, Virat Kohli, who was just getting into form after scoring 20 runs was dismissed by the England all-rounder Sam Curran. A pattern has been observed in the last few dismissals of the Indian team captain.

Talking about the similar modes of his recent dismissals, former Indian team captain, Sunil Gavaskar commented whether the intent shown by Virat Kohli on Day 4 was the right approach or not.

That method has been successful for him. He has got 8000 Test runs with that back and across the movement. But he is at deliveries way outside off stump and a little too early in the innings. This time around, the foot is somewhere else, the bat is somewhere else, which means that he hasn’t really played well. It could be about this much-talked-about word intent but in a five-day game, every batsman goes in to score runs. It’s the method that differs,” Gavaskar said on the Sony Sports Network.

In the first innings, Kohli scored 42 off 103 balls by playing in a very careful and serious manner whereas the second innings had a more positive intent in it.

When you talk about this ‘trying to take this attack to the opposition’ approach, and if that is what intent is, it can get you into trouble as we saw. I think every batsman should be left alone to find his own method. This is a Test match. In ODI and T20I, it’s a completely different situation, but over here, what they need to look into is get themselves in and try to play in the old-fashioned V. Play only when you have fought through,” Gavaskar added.
