England pacer Stuart Broad has been ruled out of the Test series against India after playing the first Test. Broad sustained an injury to his right calf while doing a light warm-up jog at Lord's ahead of the second Test on Tuesday (August 10), which resulted in a tear.

Broad is 'gutted' to miss out on an important Test series against India and he is now focusing on the Ashes series, scheduled later at the end of the year.

The 35-year-old underwent an MRI scan in London on Wednesday lunchtime, which revealed a tear. "Things can change so quickly. A moment before training all smiles then during the warm up, I jumped a hurdle, landed a bit awkwardly on my right ankle then the next step felt like I'd been whipped by a rope as hard as you can imagine on the back of my leg," he wrote on his Instagram account.

"I actually turned to @jimmya9 (James Anderson) & asked why he whipped me! but when I realized he was nowhere near me I knew I was in trouble.

"Scans say grade 3 calf. All so innocuous. Season over & gutted to miss this India Test Series but a huge focus on Australia now. Going to take my time, no rush, baby steps & be the fittest I can be heading out there. Big focus in my brain," the caption on his Instagram post further read.

Broad went wicketless in the first innings of opening Test after bowling 20 overs. He conceded 70 runs at an economy of 3.50. In the second innings, he could only bowl 5 overs and picked up a wicket. The fifth day of the match was washed out as the match ended in a draw.
