Fingers were pointed at the Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah after his poor bowling performance in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand. But the speedster has proved those who doubted him wrong with a strong comeback in the first Test against England at Trent Bridge.
Bumrah picked up four wickets in the first innings, and then a five-wicket haul in the second innings to get his name inscribed on the Trent Bridge Honours Board. His outstanding bowling display put India ahead in the game as they took a lead of 95 runs in the first innings.
England got bowled out on 303 in the second innings, after having made only 183 in the first innings. Bumrah dismissed three of England's top four batters which included Dom Sibley, Zak Crawley, and captain Joe Root, who scored a hundred.
Bumrah later got the wickets of Sam Curran and Stuart Broad in consecutive deliveries to complete his second five-wicket haul at Trent Bridge. He took one in 2018 too to help India win the Test match.

“Not a lot of adjustments to be very honest. Just the mindset adjustments and probably not looking at the end result a little too much. I am trying to be in the moment and back my skills. I am just trying to improve my game all the time and add new things but carrying the things I still have," Bumrah said in a press conference after the day’s play.
“We don’t want to look too far ahead. We are off to a good start and would look to play session by session with a good mindset tomorrow and take things from there.
“Felt like it (pitch easing out), lot of heavy rolling was also done so it got a little slow. When we bowled full, it was a little easier than in the first innings. So we had to create pressure. The wicket has gotten better so we are looking to capitalize."
