England pacer James Anderson on Friday (August 6) went past India's spin legend Anil Kumble to become the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history.

Anderson dismissed India's KL Rahul on Day 3 of the ongoing Trent Bridge Test to surpass Kumble, who picked up 619 wickets in the longest format of the game.

After the first innings, Anderson ended up with 621 wickets as he dismissed four Indian batsmen. The spinners had dominated the highest-wicket tally in Test cricket, but Anderson managed to climb up into the list in his 18-year long career.

Kumble took to Twitter to congratulate the English pacer on the achievement. He wrote, "Congratulations @jimmy9 Fantastic to see a fast bowler get up there. #legend @ECB_cricket."

Anderson, 39, is now behind Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, with 800 wickets, and Australia's Shane Warne, who's second in the list with 708 scalps.

The speedster made his Test debut for England in 2003. Anderson's longevity as a fast bowler in Test cricket is impressive as he has now played 163 Test matches for England.
