Test cricket returns to England after more than one and a half months. August 4 sees the beginning of the five-match Test series between England and India in Nottingham. The Test series will also mark the beginning of the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2021-23).
Hence former England captain Kevin Pietersen tweeted calling the England and India Test series a tough battle and fiercely competitive.
England has a long schedule ahead of them as they will play 10 Tests this year, five of which will be in the Ashes. The series against India is the perfect preparation for the Ashes as the five matches here will give clarity of team combinations.
Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen said that this is going to be a fascinating few weeks of Test cricket.
“It’ll be a fascinating few weeks of Test Cricket. Eng v India always presents a tough battle. Fiercely competitive. Desperation to win. England have a depleted team but have home ground advantage. England NEED a top 3 that scores & a spinner or it’s India who’ll win!” Kevin Pietersen tweeted.
England is without a few key players like Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and Chris Woakes. This, however, is a good opportunity for players like Sam Curran and Ollie Robinson to cement their spot in the Ashes squad.
India, on the other hand, will be desperate for their experienced batsmen to come good. However, with an amazing bowling attack at hand in both spin and pace department, India will bank on its bowlers to do the job during the Test series.
