Former India batsman and Indian women's coach WV Raman has recently opened up about Virat Kohli’s chances to win the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE and Oman later this year.
Citing the example of Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic not winning a medal in the ongoing Olympics 2020, the 56-year-old said the T20 format is so unpredictable and no one can predict what happens but said the Indian cricket team has a great chance to win the T20 World Cup 2021 under Kohli.
“I cannot say with a guarantee if Virat Kohli will win an ICC Trophy or not. The Indian team has performed well in each of the three formats under Kohli. If you look at it, this Indian team has a very good chance in the T20 World Cup,” said Raman during an online Zoom session ‘Open Heart with Author’.
The former cricketer further explained, “T20 is a format where no one is sure what would happen. Everything can change in just one over. That is the beauty of sport. You look at World No. 1 Djokovic (who won all the three Grand Slams so far this year), who could not win the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics He was in great form in tennis this year.”
He signed off by saying, “This happens in top-level sport. Generally, we cannot predict what happens in cricket, and more so in T20 cricket. Who wins, whether Kohli wins, it is different. If you look at his captaincy record, he has a very good success record. India is well placed to win the T20 World Cup.”
Raman's claims come on the back of experienced outings with several of India's top young players today including his days working closely with skipper Kohli during his time with the India U-19s.
