England will seek revenge for their defeat in India earlier this year when they take on the Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team in the upcoming five-match Test series starting on Wednesday, August 4 at Trent Bridge, but Umesh Yadav is confident to win on the English soil.
In February-March, England lost the Test series 1-3 to India and the pacer said the hosts will have a lot of plans to stop Team India in the upcoming Test series, but feels the tourists can still outsmart the hosts given their current run at the highest level. India hasn’t won a Test series in England since 2007.
Umesh told Times of India: “England came to India and suffered defeat. Now, we are going to play them in their own land. I am sure they must be having a lot of plans to stop us. They will try to win the series. But the way we are going forward, winning and performing, I am confident that we will defeat them.”
India will kick off their five-Test series campaign on Wednesday, with the first Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The second Test (Aug 12 - Aug 16) will be played at Lord's, the third (Aug 25 - Aug 29) at Headingley, the fourth (Sep 02 - Sep 06) at Kennington Oval, and the fifth Test (Sep 10 - Sep 14) at Old Trafford.
The experienced speedster is excited to play his second Test series in England. The 33-year-old added: “It will be a close fight in England. I am really excited and looking forward to taking as many English wickets as possible. We also have our plans for them (England batsmen).”
He signed off by saying, “As a team, we are growing together. Some years back, there was a lot of chopping and changing that happened. Now, everything is in place. Thanks to our captain (Virat Kohli) and coach (Ravi Shastri), the team has settled down now.
We have players who have played almost 50 plus Tests. We have a mature and well-balanced side. We all know what we have to do. Every player in the team is ready for a last-minute call-up and is confident of performing.”
