The BCCI has named injury replacements for the Indian team for the upcoming five-Test series against England beginning August 4 in Nottingham.
India suffered three major injuries to its players in the Test squad, as BCCI confirmed that opener Shubman Gill sustained a developing stress reaction on his left lower leg (shin) during the World Test Championship final. This was confirmed via an MRI scan. He is ruled out of the tour and has returned back to India.
Then during the Indians and County Select XI match, fast bowler Avesh Khan suffered a fracture to his left thumb after trying to stop a shot from Hanuma Vihari as he was representing the opposition team.
“Fast bowler Avesh Khan suffered a blow to his left thumb on Day 1 of the warm-up game. He was taken for an X-Ray and the result confirmed a fracture. A specialist was consulted for further management of his injury. He is ruled out of India’s Tour of England,” BCCI said in a statement.
The second casualty of the match was all-rounder Washington Sundar who has suffered a stress injury to his bowling finger on the right hand and BCCI stated that his recovery will take longer than expected despite him taking an injection to his hand during the match and playing it.
“All-rounder Washington Sundar had taken an injection on his right-hand bowling finger. However, his recovery will take longer than expected and he is not bowling-fit. He is ruled out of the remainder of the tour,” BCCI confirmed.
Apart from this, reserve opener Abhimanyu Easwaran was added to the main Test squad in place of Shubman Gill.
Meanwhile, BCCI also stated that Rishabh Pant has recovered from COVID-19 with two negative RT-PCR tests. He has begun his preparations for the upcoming Test series after clearance from the BCCI Medical Team.
Apart from this bowling coach B. Arun, Wriddhiman Saha and Abhimanyu Easwaran have completed their self-isolation in London and have now joined Team India in Durham.
Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav have been as replacements in the India squad by the All-India Senior Selection Committee.
