Even the former India all-rounder Reetinder Singh Sodhi lauded Sharma by calling him ‘best batsman in the world’ for his performances in the longest format after he started opening the innings in the Test series against South Africa in 2019.

A lot here depends on Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Cheteshwar Pujara - how these three batsmen catch form in the upcoming series. We all know that, in his elegance, Rohit Sharma is the best batsman in the world,Sodhi told India News.

The 40-year-old then addressed the fact that the Mumbai-based batsman even though struggled to get going in red-ball cricket, has managed to stamp his authority in Test cricket.

He was definitely struggling in Test cricket if we talk about sometime back but now he has stamped his authority in Test cricket. He is a special player as an opener, when he plays he can take the match away for the opposition in a matter of moments,” the former India cricketer said.

The 34-year-old will be seen back in action as Virat Kohli and Co. take on hosts England in the five-Test match series scheduled to begin from 4 August that too possibly in front of a full capacity crowd.

Thus, with the Indian team getting two practice games instead of just one intra-squad match before the World Test Championship (WTC) final, the subcontinental giants will be better prepared for the upcoming matches and it will be exciting to see how the Indian team performs against England.
