CWC 2023: “Sanity and dignity more important”- Harbhajan Singh asks India fans to stop trolling families of Australian players

Australia defeated India in the CWC 2023 final to win their sixth World Cup title.

Vini Raman and Glenn Maxwell | InstagramIndia lost the ICC World Cup 2023 final to Australia on November 19 in Ahmedabad in a lop-sided contest. This not only left the Men in Blue players dejected, but the Indian team fans were also left heartbroken.

In their dejection and rage at the Australian players who were part of the squad that won the CWC 2023 trophy. Vini Raman, the wife of Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell, found herself at the center of a social media storm. As Australia celebrated their triumph over India, Vini Raman faced a barrage of hateful and vile direct messages from a section of fans.

Raman took to Instagram to share a carousel of photographs documenting her journey and the Australian team's success. However, she faced vitriol and abusive messages on that post which led to Vini Raman giving it back to the trolls.

She emphasized that one can have Indian roots and still support Australia, the country where she was born and raised, and more importantly, the team for which her husband plays. Meanwhile, now Harbhajan Singh requested the Indian fans to stop abusing the Australian players and their families.

"Reports of trolling of family members of Australian cricket players is completely in bad taste. We played well but lost the final to better cricket by the Aussies. That's it. Why troll the players and their families? Requesting all cricket fans to stop such behaviour. Sanity and dignity are more important," Harbhajan Singh said in a social media post.
