Indian PM Narendra Modi paid a visit to the Indian team dressing room after their heartbreaking loss to Australia in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 which was played on Sunday, November 19.
Australia crushed India by 6 wickets in the final, as Travis Head’s century helped the Kangaroos chase the target of 241 runs with ease. Earlier, India after being asked to bat first, posted 240 runs with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scoring fifties.
In the aftermath of the game, the Indian players looked completely dejected with some holding back tears as well. However, PM Narendra Modi visited the Indian dressing room to console the players and say a few words of encouragement.
"It happens. Keep smiling, the country is looking up to you"- Narendra Modi can be heard saying to the team.
The PM hugged fast bowler Mohammed Shami, while sharing a few words in Gujarati with native players Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah. He also spoke with coach Rahul Dravid and with star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
He went on to put an arm around a visibly sad Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma, and then held the hands of India's two iconic players, while trying to cheer them up.
