Virat Kohli bagged the best fielder medal for his exceptional fielding in the World Cup 2023 final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday (November 19).

India fielding coach T Dilip consoled the dressing room after the team suffered a heartbreaking six-wicket defeat in the title clash.

“Guys, I know it’s tough and well feel the pain but that’s what it is. We did everything possibly right and still the result is not in our favour. But I think as Rahul bhai said, we can all be proud of ourselves,” Dilip said in a video posted by bcci.tv.

“I appreciate and thank every player in this group who have committed in the practice sessions. The way you put yourself on the line, you put intent, energy. I couldn’t ask more than this. Well done!”

Dilip hailed India’s fielding effort during the tournament and announced Kohli as the winner for his brilliance on the field in the final.

“During the course of this tournament I think we took some brilliant catches but what really I liked is the brotherhood we shared on the field. The way each one supported each other, the way everyone was backing. That’s outstanding to see.

“And I see only growing up as a team on the field and today’s winner, he’s been a terrific player. He sets himself up great standards and every time he goes on the field he just does magic. And the best part is that he not only dies his jpb so well but his actions inspire so may people and it is none other than Virat Kohli,” he said.

The Men in Blue were on an unbeaten streak of 10 matches in the World Cup 2023 as they won all their nine league-stage fixtures and defeated New Zealand in the semi-final. However, Rohit Sharma’s men were outplayed by the Aussies in the summit clash.

On a slow pitch, Indian batters failed to get going and managed to post only 240/10 in 50 overs after being asked to bat first.

In reply, the Aussies rode on Travis Head’s stunning hundred (137 off 120) and Marnus Labuschagne’s unbeaten half-century (58 off 110) to seal the chase in 43 overs.
