Legendary pacer Wasim Akram has lashed out at former Pakistan cricketer Hasan Raza’s bizarre comments that Indian bowlers are getting “different and suspicious balls” in the ongoing World Cup.
Hasan’s remarks created quite a stir on social media, and he was slammed by the fans and former cricketers alike.
Speaking on A Sports, Akram was asked about the same and he gave a detailed explanation to dismiss the fake claim. He also added that such comments bring embarrassment to Pakistan.
"I have been reading about it for the last couple of days. I want to have the same thing these guys are having, sounds like fun. Because their mind is not there. Beizzati apni toh karaani hi karaani, saadi bhi na karawo poorey duniya wich," Akram said.
"It is a very simple thing. Umpire aata hein match se pahle, jo toss team jeeti hai agar woh bowling kar rahi hein. 12 gend ka ek dabba hota hein. Chaar umpire hein, referee hein, pata nahi aur bhi bandey hotey hein," he added.
"12 gendong me se agar main pahle bowling kar raha hoon toh main gend pick karunga. Yeh meri first option hain, check kiya and yeh meri second option hain. Dono ball umpire rakhega, first option in one pocket and second option in the other pocket. Taaki agar yeh ball kharab hota hai ya change karna ho toh second option hein," Akram explained.
"Then woh 8 balls dusre dressing room me leke jata hai.. in a box, with a lot of people with him. Wahaan jaake woh bhi do gend pick karte hein - first option and second option, woh bhi jebong me jata hai. Ooper jaake woh fourth umpire, on-field umpires to deta hai -- yeh first two options bowling team ka hein..second innings ka yeh hain. Uss kamre mein referee baithey huwe hain aur log baithe huwe hain. Toh yeh kaun sochta hai yeh cheez," he further remarked.
Wasim Akram then said that the Indian bowlers deserve appreciation for their skills.
"The argument is, for the last 3-4 days, especially in our country, ki baki bowlers kissi se bhi swing nahi ho raha. But also think ki these bowlers jo India ke hein, maybe they learn something more, maybe they are better right now, maybe they are in better form. Appreciate them," he stated.
Former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq endorsed Akram’s views and said: "Bahut jyada wrist position pe, aur bahut jyada unhone kaam kiya seam position pe. Woh haath se nikalte hain, aapko nazar aata hein, jab slo-mo me dikhaatey hein."
Veteran batter Shoaib Malik, who was also part of the discussion panel, said that people look at the negative aspects only rather than learning from someone’s success.
"Jab kisi insaan ko success milti hein, hum usko praise nahi karte, ussey sikhne ki koshish nahi karte. Humara first thought yeh hota hai negative - yeh kaise usko mil gaya. Woh negative cheez leke aate hain, humein bajaye unse seekhne ke, hum negative cheezon me jyada jaate hain. Routine life me bhi aise hi hain," Malik said.
India’s performance in the ongoing World Cup has been awe-inspiring, to say the least. The Men in Blue have won their seven matches comprehensively so far against Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka.
India’s next match is scheduled against South Africa at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on November 5.
