Marsh has flown back home and there is no certainty that he will return to India for the remainder of the World Cup.

Marsh has returned home due to personal reasons and there is no certainty that he will be back in India for the remainder of the marquee event as it heads towards knockout stages.

"A timeline on his return to the squad is to be confirmed," Cricket Australia confirmed in a statement.

Australia have already lost the services of Glenn Maxwell for their next match against England on November 4 after the all-rounder suffered concussion in a golf-related incident.

In addition, the absence of Marsh is a massive blow for the Australians as they look to book their spot in the semi-finals.

Alex Carey, Sean Abbott, Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green will be in reckoning to replace Maxwell and Marsh for the match against England.

If Marsh misses out from the rest of the tournament, Australia might have to fly in a replacement player with the approval of the Event Technical Committee. Tanveer Sangha is the only travelling reserve with the squad currently.

Mitchell Marsh has scored 225 runs at an average of above 37 and has taken two wickets in the ongoing World Cup so far. His best with the bat came against Pakistan in Bengaluru when he smashed a brilliant 121.
