Indian captain Rohit Sharma expressed deep affection for the iconic Wankhede Stadium ahead of the team’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka here on November 2.

The right-hander described the Wankhede Stadium, his home ground, as a special venue where he honed his cricketing skills, gained invaluable experiences, and transformed into the cricketer he is today.

He added that Mumbaikars love their cricket and it can be seen in the buzz at Wankhede Stadium. Rohit also highlighted the renowned North Stand, where true cricket fans gather and cheer for the Indian team at every match at the venue.

Rohit Sharma told ICC: “Wankhede is such a special venue, my best venue. What I am today as a cricketer because of the learning that I have had and that has all happened at Wankhede. So, nothing can beat that. Mumbaikars love their cricket and you can see the buzz at Wankhede Stadium, it is crazy.”

He signed off by saying, “It has got those little zones in the stadium specifically that north stand which is you know the most famous stand at Wankhede the crowd there the people who come are true cricket fans.”

Notably, India is currently at the top of the World Cup 2023 points table with 12 points from their six games in the tournament. They now have a great opportunity to beat Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday to confirm their seat for the semifinal of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.
