Ahead of the India versus Sri Lanka match in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Captain Rohit Sharma took to Instagram to draw attention to the dire air quality in Mumbai.

As Team India set to face Sri Lanka on November 3 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Rohit shared an Instagram story with the caption 'Mumbai, yeh kya ho gaya' (Mumbai, what has happened), expressing concern about the city's alarming air pollution.

Notably, Mumbai has been making headlines for the past two weeks due to its alarmingly poor air quality. The capital of Maharashtra continues to grapple with gloomy skies and severe pollution, with the overall Air Quality Index still hovering in the danger zone in the city.

Meanwhile, the AQI for Monday, October 30, was 143, while it stood at 152 on October 29. An AQI rating of 0–50 is considered to be good; 51–100 is rated as satisfactory; 101–200 is classified as moderate; 201-300 is poor; and 301–400 is very poor. Above 400 AQI, it is rated as severe.

The issue of air pollution isn't limited to just Mumbai locals, as it has already caught the attention of international cricketers as well. During England’s World Cup 2023 match against South Africa in Mumbai, Joe Root also expressed his concern over the air quality.

Root had said, “I've not played in anything like that before. I've obviously played in hotter conditions, and probably more humid conditions. But it just felt like you couldn't get your breath. It was like you were eating the air. It was unique.”
