CWC 2023: “Overwhelmed by the love”- Afghanistan's Hashmatullah Shahidi on a free ride from Pune taxi driver

Afghanistan will face Sri Lanka in CWC 2023 match in Pune on Monday.

Afghanistan will next face Sri Lanka in Pune on October 30th in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.

The Afghan side has been on fire in this ongoing ICC World Cup. After losing their first two matches to Bangladesh and India, the Rashid Khan-featured side caused a massive upset by defeating the defending champions England in Delhi by 89 runs.

They then lost to New Zealand in Chennai but then bounced back massively. They then caused another upset, defeating Pakistan in Chennai as well, comfortably by 8 wickets. With these results, Afghanistan is at the 6th spot in the CWC 2023 points table with 4 points in 5 matches.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan players Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmat Shah were on a night out in Pune and met with a very generous taxi driver, who didn’t charge any fare, despite repeated requests from the players.

Shahidi posted the interaction on Instagram where he can be seen in conversation with the driver.

He posted on Instagram: “This taxi driver hasn’t charged us for the ride. I’m sure it would have been his half-day income. Respect to the guy. It means a lot to us. Overwhelmed by the love, respect, and affection people have shown us wherever we go since we have arrived in India.”
