Glenn Maxwell put on an exhibition with the bat in Match 24 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday (October 25).
Batting at No. 6, Maxwell slammed the fastest century in World Cup history as he took just 40 balls to reach the three-figure mark.
Maxwell wreaked havoc on the Dutch bowlers in such a way that the spectators and commentators were left speechless. He slammed 9 fours and 8 sixes in his whirlwind knock of 106 in just 44 deliveries.
However, the highlight of Maxwell’s innings was a couple of outrageous reverse sweeps he hit for a boundary and a six against the pace bowlers.
On the third delivery of the 46th over, Maxwell reverse swept a full ball from Paul van Meekeren for one bounce four.
In the very next over, the Aussie swashbuckler attempted the same shot against Bas de Leede for a maximum, prompting Shane Watson to say "oh that's ridiculous" on-air. He played on more switch hit in the same over to accumulate a six.
Earlier, the likes of David Warner (104), Steve Smith (71) and Marnus Labuschagne (62) batted brilliantly to set an ideal platform for a gigantic total.
Thanks to the collective contributions, Australia racked up a colossal total of 399/8 on the board.
