Glenn Maxwell celebrates his record-breaking ton | GettyAustralian batter Glenn Maxwell took the Netherlands bowling attack to the cleaners in Match 24 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday (October 25).

Opting to bat first, Aussie batters like David Warner (104), Steve Smith (71) and Marnus Labuschagne (62) set an ideal platform for a gigantic total.

Maxwell arrived in the middle during the 40th over and started his carnage from the word go. The right-hander created mayhem among the Dutch bowlers as he completed his half-century off 26 balls and reached the three-figure mark in just 40 deliveries.

With this brutal display, Maxwell also broke Aiden Markram's record for the fastest World Cup hundred by 9 balls. Earlier in the tournament, Markram had set the record at the same venue when he wreaked havoc on the Sri Lankan bowling attack to help South Africa register the highest World Cup total of 428.

Maxwell was eventually dismissed in the final over for 106 off 44 balls, which propelled Australia to a colossal 399/8 in 50 overs. His knock was studded with 9 fours and 8 sixes.

For his record-shattering knock, Glenn Maxwell received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on social media.
