Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik heaped praise on Indian captain Rohit Sharma for his stunning performances in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Malik said that the senior Indian opener’s big hitting at the top of the order reminds him of the legendary Australian openers Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist.

Shoaib Malik said on the YouTube channel 'A Sports': “Rohit Sharma reminds of the era when Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist used to open for Australia. They (Hayden and Gilchrist) used to do such hitting at the start that by the time Ricky Ponting came in to bat at No. 3, the field was open for him to score against battered and bruised bowlers.”

Rohit has been consistently scoring runs for Men in Blue at the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 after he fell for a duck against Australia. He scored 131 against Afghanistan, 86 against Pakistan, and 48 against Bangladesh in the ongoing tournament.

The right-hander recently scored his 7th hundred in the ODI World Cup, the most by any player in the tournament's history, and Malik said that he made changes to his game, which helped him a lot.

Malik signed off by saying, “The best thing about him (Rohit) is that he (not only) has a lot of power, hits big sixes, but also improvises. This is very important. That's why you see his hundreds are the most (7 in ODI World Cups). As soon as the field spreads out after 10 overs, he changes his game.”
