Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram reacted to the controversial 'wide' call that somewhat helped Virat Kohli in reaching his century in the 17th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh.
Controversy flared up in the 42nd over of India's innings when Bangladesh's left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed delivered a ball down the leg side. However, umpire Richard Kettleborough refrained from signalling it as a wide, and Kohli went on to hit a six off the next ball to complete his ton.
Well, many welcomed the decision as Team India was just two runs away from the win, but it didn’t go down well with many. Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram also shared his views on the controversy.
However, the Pakistan legend avoided getting involved in the controversy, as he felt it was a genuine mistake by the umpire, but people who have nothing to do live off such “crap”.
Wasim Akram said during a discussion on A Sports: “Looks like one of those genuine mistakes [by the umpire]. It was a wide ball for sure. [On the controversy] This is for people who have nothing to do, who live off this cr*p and then they can go nuts with it.”
Akram signed off by saying on Kohli’s hundred, “He fielded for 50 overs and after reaching 90 also he was striking the big hits. That shows extreme fitness. This guy is from a different planet. When Kohli came out to bat after that start, it was only a matter of time. 48 ODI centuries now, one away from the great man’s record - Sachin Tendulkar’s 49 tons.”
