India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was given the ‘Best Fielder’ medal by Team India fielding coach T Dilip for his brilliant diving catch of Mushfiqur Rahim in the recent ICC World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh in Pune on October 19.
India defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets as Virat Kohli scored a scintillating 103* with the bat. Bangladesh had opted to bat first and posted 256/8 in 50 overs with openers Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das scoring half-centuries. For India, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj took 2 wickets each.
In response, first Rohit Sharma (48) and Shubman Gill (53) ripped the Bangla bowling apart and then Virat Kohli with an unbeaten ton helped India romp home in 41.3 overs. This was India’s fourth win in four games and they have 8 points in CWC 2023.
After the match, T Dilip gave a pep talk about the Indian fielding in the game and lauded Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul for their brilliant catches and Kuldeep Yadav for his excellent fielding in the deep.
Jadeja, who was India’s best bowler on a flat Pune track plucked a stunner at the backward point to dismiss Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim.
Kl Rahul, who had won the award in the last game against Pakistan, took an outstanding one-handed catch, diving to his left to send Mehidy Hasan Miraz back into the hut.
BCCI shared a video of the dressing room, which started with KL Rahul saying he deserves to win it two in a row but Jadeja should get the medal.
“I think I deserve it today, but I think I’ve got it just the last game. So, Dilip sir, just to keep it interesting, will give it to somebody else. And according to me, the contenders are Jaddu, obviously for that catch. And Kuldeep is not too far away because he was really good in the field today,” he said.
T Dilip lauded the efforts of Indian fielders in their match against Bangladesh. He also revealed that Indian fielders saved 13 runs in the game against Bangladesh.
“We have played enough, we all know that win isn’t built-in runs or wickets. I think it is also built on marvelous catches, and tremendous savings and today was a great example of that. Just not the way we save, but also the numbers saved. Two game-changing catches by KL and Jadeja. We as a team saved 13 runs today. That was fantastic.
So let’s roll the carpet for today’s evening star. On the field today one person was like a lion today. Commanding on the field, outstanding effort with a direct hit, savings, and outstanding top catch. Mr Jadeja,” Dilip said.

“After Rohit, In this team, I think someone, who always carries calmness, and composure, always does his job efficiently, but he maintained himself very calm. A stunner of a catch on the leg side — Mr Kl Rahul. And here comes a big person who’s been stretching his limits by every game I think today we saw him outstandingly well, Kuldeep Yadav, you were outstanding,” he said.
