CWC 2023: BCCI gives update about Hardik Pandya’s injury; availability for New Zealand match revealed

 Hardik Pandya twisted his left ankle during Bangladesh match in Pune | BCCIThe BCCI, on Friday, October 20, 2023, gave an update on all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s ankle injury. Pandya twisted his left ankle during the recent ICC World Cup match against Bangladesh in Pune.

He left the field after experiencing severe discomfort and didn’t participate in the rest of the match, which India won by 7 wickets thanks to 103* from Virat Kohli. India has now won all four of its matches thus far.

Hardik Pandya was taken for scans after hurting his ankle and the medical team assessed his scan report to ascertain nothing was serious.

India will next play New Zealand in Dharamshala on October 22, Sunday and the BCCI, in its update confirmed that Hardik Pandya will not play in that crunch match.

“Team India vice-captain Hardik Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle while fielding on his bowling during India’s match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.

The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised to rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20th October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India plays England,” BCCI said in a statement.

Meanwhile, as per Indian Express report, Hardik Pandya will visit the NCA in Bengaluru instead and will be treated by a specialist doctor from England and probably administered injections. He is expected to play in India’s match against England in Lucknow on October 29.

“He will be heading to Bengaluru where he has been asked to report to the NCA. The medical team assessed his ankle scan report and it looks like he will be fine by taking an injection. The BCCI consulted a specialist doctor in England and they too were of a similar opinion. He will be missing the next game,a BCCI official told Indian Express.

There is no talk of replacing Hardik Pandya for the rest of the World Cup and India captain Rohit Sharma also said that the injury was not a cause of concern.
