Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the 13th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between Afghanistan and England.

On Tuesday, October 17, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Gurbaz was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during the 13th CWC 2023 match.

Notably, the Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, fixtures, and fittings during an international match.”

The incident occurred during the 19th over of the first innings, when Afghanistan’s opener Gurbaz slammed his bat on the boundary rope and chair while leaving the field after being run out for 80 against England on October 15 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Gurbaz admitted his offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees after the on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Paul Reiffel, and fourth umpire Paul Wilson leveled the charge.

So, there was no need for a formal hearing. However, one demerit point has been added to the Afghan opener's disciplinary record. It was Gurbaz’s first offense in a 24-month period.

Notably, Afghanistan had won the match by 69 runs against England. It was Afghanistan’s first win in the ongoing World Cup in 2023. They will next face New Zealand in Chennai on October 18.
