The cricketing rivalry between India and Pakistan is undoubtedly one of the biggest in the sporting world. It's become a battle of nerves whenever the two countries lock horns with each other on the cricket field.
On Saturday (October 14), the cricketing world will once again come to a standstill as the arch-rivals will face each other in the World Cup 2023 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Both teams are coming into this marquee fixture by winning their first two World Cup matches. While the Men in Blue registered comprehensive wins over Australia and Afghanistan, the Men in Green defeated Netherlands and Sri Lanka.
Ahead of the game, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has said that India will start as favourites against Pakistan.
"India's all round performance has been very, very good and that gives you hope that against Pakistan," Gavaskar said while speaking to India Today.
He also pointed out that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam will be under pressure in this game due to his failures in the first two World Cup outings.
Babar, who currently occupies the No.1 position in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, registered scores of 5 and 10 against Netherlands and Sri Lanka respectively.
"Pakistan, also the skipper, hasn't got runs which will always put pressure, particularly when you're going to play against India. He'll be conscious of the fact that he hasn't spent time out in the middle," Gavaskar said.
"I do believe that, uh, India start as the favorites," he concluded.
For the unversed, Pakistan have never defeated India in the history of Cricket World Cups. The two sides have faced each other seven times, with India emerging victorious on all occasions.
