Former Indian pacer Sreesanth shared his views on legendary captain MS Dhoni's role in shaping the career of Rohit Sharma after the senior opener smashed a record century against Afghanistan in the 9th game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Dhoni's selfless support has helped many youngsters and nurtured talent to achieve greater heights, and Rohit is one of them. The former Indian skipper identified a batting position for Rohit where he could utilize his potential, and now he is the world-class opener.

Well, Sreesanth stressed that Dhoni never claimed to be the sole architect of Rohit's success and even acknowledged his pivotal role in his own journey as well.

Sreesanth was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda: “MS Dhoni would never say he made Rohit Sharma’s career. I know him really well. We can say that because Dhoni gave him an opportunity. Why did he give him an opportunity? Because he knew that at that number he will do well. Be it Raina, Virat or Ashwin for that matter.”

He added, “Mahi bhai has played a big role even in my career, everybody’s career. Nobody can change that. But why did he do that? Because he knew that if he supports those players, they will go to the next level. Maybe he gave the support to us that he himself didn’t get.”

Notably, Rohit is currently leading Team India in the Cricket World Cup 2023, and on Wednesday, he hammered a remarkable century to etch his name in the record book.

Rohit has now scored the highest number of hundreds in the World Cup, and he is also the joint-fastest to complete 1000 World Cup runs. He will be next seen in action on October 14 against Pakistan.
