The ninth match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 between India and Afghanistan in Delhi on Wednesday (October 11) will be remembered for a number of reasons.
While Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah stole the show with their brilliant performances, the wholesome handshake and hug between Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq also became the talk of the town.
Meanwhile, a video went viral on social media on Wednesday, in which some fans can be seen engaging in a fist fight on the sidelines of a World Cup match.
The authenticity of the clip could not be confirmed, but a social media user claimed that the fight took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium during the India-Afghanistan clash.
Coming to the match, India registered an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Afghanistan. It was their second successive win in the quadrennial event and a real confidence booster ahead of the marquee encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 14.
Riding on Bumrah’s four-wicket haul (4/39), India restricted Afghanistan to 272/8 in 50 overs after being asked to bowl first.
In reply, the Men in Blue rode on Rohit’s whirlwind century (131 off 84 balls) and handy contributions from Virat Kohli (55*) and Ishan Kishan (47) to overhaul the target with 15 overs to spare.
