Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq buried the hatchet

India continued their winning ways in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, as they comprehensively defeated Afghanistan by 8 wickets in Delhi on Wednesday (October 11).

Afghanistan opted to bat first after winning the toss and finished with 272/8 in their 50 overs. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi top-scored with 80, while Azmatullah Omarzai struck 62. Jasprit Bumrah was the most successful bowler picking up 4/39, while birthday boy Hardik Pandya took 2/43.

In reply, captain Rohit Sharma scored one of his finest World Cup hundreds, as he smashed 131 off 84 balls with 16 fours and 5 sixes. This was his 31st ODI hundred, as he broke several records during his innings including the big one of Sachin Tendulkar for the most World Cup hundreds.

Ishan Kishan (47), Virat Kohli (55*), and Shreyas Iyer (25*) also played well as India completed their chase in just 35 overs to move to second on the points table, just behind New Zealand on net run-rate.

The talking point other than Rohit's innings was the moment when Virat and Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq exchanged a few smiles, shook hands and hugged to bury the hatchet after their heated spat in the IPL 2023.

This came amidst Kohli's home fans heckling Naveen on the boundary line through out the innings and when he came out to bat towards the end of Afghanistan's innings. After making up with Naveen in the middle, Kohli also gestured towards the fans to stop troubling the pacer.
