CWC 2023: Ajay Jadeja named Afghanistan team’s mentor for World Cup

Afghanistan to open their CWC 2023 campaign against Bangladesh in Dharamshala on Oct 7.

Ajay Jadeja | ACB XThe Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has named former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja as the Afghanistan team’s mentor for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 tournament. Afghanistan National Cricket Team is currently in India for the tournament which begins on October 5.

Their first warm-up match against South Africa was washed off due to rain in Thiruvananthapuram. Now they will face Sri Lanka in Guwahati on October 3, 2023. On the other hand Afghanistan will face Bangladesh in their World Cup opening match in Dharamshala on October 7.

Ajay Jadeja was an integral part of the Indian team in the 1990s. He played 15 test matches for India from 1992 to 2000, scoring 576 runs at 26.18 with 4 half-centuries to his name and a best of 96.

He has also represented India in 196 One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the period, having scored 5359 runs at 37.47 with 6 hundreds and 30 fifties to his name in the format. He also captained India in a handful of ODI matches as well.

The ACB announced his appointment on X (formerly Twitter) with sa tatement reading: “ACB Appointed former Indian Captain and middle-order batter Ajay Jadeja as AfghanAtalan's Mentor for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.”
