Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag hopes that Virat Kohli finishes the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as the highest run-getter, and win the prestigious trophy for the country.

Recalling a historic moment from 2011 World Cup, when Kohli and his fellow youngsters celebrated their title victory by lifting the legendary Sachin Tendulkar on their shoulders, Sehwag wants a similar celebration for Virat in front of the home crowd this time.

Notably, Kohli is one of the greatest batters of the modern era, and he has a great record in the World Cup and ODI cricket as well. Kohli is the second-highest run-getter for India in the World Cup history with 1030 runs in 26 matches.

On the other hand, Kohli has already scored more than 13,000 runs in ODIs and has 47 hundreds to his name, only two behind Tendulkar's all-time record in the 50-over format.

Well, Sehwag said that the former Indian skipper didn’t score a hundred in the 2019 World Cup, so he must score some centuries in the upcoming mega event and help Team India win the coveted trophy.

He also wants Kohli to get the similar adulation that Tendulkar got in 2011 for his contributions to Indian cricket over the years.

Virender Sehwag was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz: “Cheeku (Kohli) didn’t score a single century in the 2019 World Cup, this year I hope he scores many hundreds and ends up as the leading run-scorer in the tournament. Then, I want him to be carried on the shoulders and get a round of the ground.”

Sehwag further revealed that Rohit Sharma was close to getting picked for the 2011 World Cup, but he missed the berth, but now the Indian skipper and Kohli deserve to win the World Cup.

He signed off by saying, “These two (Rohit & Kohli) senior players deserve to win the World Cup. Rohit Sharma was so close to getting picked for the 2011 World Cup but missed out. Later he became the Badshah of ODIs, he deserves to win a World Cup trophy because he is a fantastic player.”
