CWC 2023: Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan suffers ankle injury; in doubt for Afghanistan match- Report

Shakib has been ruled out of both CWC 2023 warmup matches.

Bangladesh is facing Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 29, 2023 and will next play England on October 2nd at the same venue.

Shakib Al Hasan injured his ankle while reportedly playing football the night before the first warm-up match in Guwahati. Thanks to the swollen ankle, the Bangladesh captain was ruled out of both the warm-up matches.

And in a huge blow, RevSportz reported that Shakib might not get fit in time for Bangladesh’s World Cup opening encounter against Afghanistan which will be played on October 7 in Dharamshala.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first in the warm-up match. Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Shariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and captain Shakib Al Hasan are not in the Bangladesh XI.  Mehidy Hasan Miraz is captaining Bangladesh in the Sri Lanka warm-up game in Guwahati.
