Ahead of the showpiece tournament, Indian batting legend Virender Sehwag has revealed the first five players he would pick in his dream ODI XI.

Sehwag had no hesitation in picking three Indians in his line-up. The other two players are from Australia and New Zealand.

The first player in Sehwag’s list is India skipper Rohit Sharma, who was the highest run-getter in the 2019 edition of World Cup and has three double centuries to his name in ODIs.

Virat Kohli was the second player in Sehwag’s exclusive list. The star India batter’s ODI numbers speak for itself, with him having smashed 13000 runs and 46 centuries. He was also part of India’s triumphant 2011 World Cup campaign.

Australia’s swashbuckling opener David Warner also made an appearance in Sehwag’s list. The southpaw has 6030 runs to his name from 143 ODIs with 19 hundreds. He also played a key role in Australia’s 2015 World Cup victory.

The next player Sehwag opted for is New Zealand hard-hitter Glenn Phillips. While Phillips is yet to play at a 50-over World Cup and has only featured in 16 ODIs, he left an impression on the Indian great with his stunning exploits during last year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia. Phillips slammed a brilliant century against Sri Lanka in Sydney and Sehwag expects him to shine in India.

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah also featured in Sehwag’s line-up. Bumrah, who recently made a comeback to the Indian team after a long injury lay-off, is known for delivering pin-point yorkers and is expected to play a big part in the upcoming World Cup at home.

"They are all talented players and perform well in ODI cricket and they can win the games on their own shoulders. Whenever they click, their team will win," Sehwag quoted as saying by ICC.
