CWC 2023: WATCH – Sanjay Manjrekar picks his 15-member India squad for World Cup, includes Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma | GettyThe excitement for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is increasing with every passing day. The quadrennial event will be held in India from October 5 to November 19.

With almost a month left for the World Cup, the experts have started picking their preferred squad for the participating teams.

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has also joined the bandwagon. In a video posted by Star Sports on social media platform X, Manjrekar named his 15-member India squad for the showpiece tournament.

The notable inclusion in his squad was that of young left-hander Tilak Varma, who is yet to make his ODI debut for India.

Middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav, who has been a failure in the 50-over format so far, featured in Manjrekar’s team as well. He also picked left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh and wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal even though the two players have been left out of India’s Asia Cup squad due to poor form.

There were a couple of notable omissions in Manjrekar’s side as the likes of Shardul Thakur and Ishan Kishan failed to make a cut.

The rest of his squad was on the expected lines as the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul formed the batting line-up. The team has a seam-bowling all-rounder in Hardik Pandya and a spinning all-rounder in Ravindra Jadeja.

In the fast bowling department, Manjrekar included Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj while Kuldeep Yadav is the only premier spinner in his side.
